| | | | Faith in the Future Foundation | Background These are some big questions that deserve honest attempts at answers and that is what you will find on our web sites. Faith in the Future Foundation does not claim a monopoly on truth. We are not a church or traditional Christian ministry. Our Statement of Faith is very simple and open because we encourage intellectual exploration with an openness to being wrong or incomplete in the grasp of eternal truths and their application to material life on earth.
Faith in the Future Foundation provides insights into how and why the world is as it is from an integrated perspective of science and spirituality. In our pages you will find solutions that you can apply to your own life now and faith in the ultimate outcome of the world’s current trajectory towards increasing political and economic oppression by a global superculture based on materialism and spiritual confusion. While the short term future looks ominous, there are a number of sound reasons for hope. We do not give up the fight: we endure and continue in confidence. [More]

| | | | What is Messianic Judaism? - Congregation Shema Yisrael | What Is Messianic Judaism? Messianic Judaism is a movement of Jewish people who believe that Yeshua (Jesus’ original name in Hebrew) is the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. Yeshua is the most Jewish of Jews. Yeshua was a descendant of both Abraham and King David, was raised in a Jewish home and went to synagogue. He perfectly kept the entire Torah (see Galatians 4:4). He taught that He came to fulfill, not set aside, the Torah (see Matthew 5:17-19). He was a rabbi who performed unparalleled miracles, bringing great blessing to the nation of Israel. All His early disciples also lived very Jewish lives. The Messianic movement was entirely Jewish at its inception, and continued to exist as an authentic Jewish movement for 700 years after Yeshua’s death and resurrection. Messianic Jews have not stopped being Jewish. On the contrary, we remain strongly Jewish in our identity and lifestyle! The Tenach (the Old Testament Scriptures) provides the foundation of our Jewish faith, and the New Covenant Scriptures (which were also written by Jews) the completion of our Jewish faith. In fact, the Hebrew Scriptures themselves affirm that they are not complete, but that God was going to make a New Covenant with the Jewish people (Jeremiah 31:31-34). We believe that the Sinai covenant, upon which much of traditional (Rabbinic) Judaism is based, is a broken covenant. There is no Temple and there are no sacrifices by which we can be brought near to God and experience genuine atonement. Non-Messianic Judaism is based on this broken covenant, which cannot save us. In contrast, we believe that God already established this New Covenant by means of Yeshua’s death and resurrection. He died and rose again to atone for our sins, so that we can enter into this New Covenant relationship with God. We believe that Yeshua ascended to the right hand of God the Father and is coming back to Earth to reign from Jerusalem over Israel and all the nations of the world. At that time the fullness of the New Covenant will be realized. [More] | | |
| | | | Divine Principle - PART II - CHAPTER 1. PROVIDENTIAL AGE FOR THE FOUNDATION OF RESTORATION | 1. THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH First, in order that the foundation of faith may be laid, there must be certain conditional objects as the price of restoring it through indemnity. Originally, Adam, due to his disbelief, lost God's Word given as the condition to lay the foundation of faith. Consequently, in order for Adam, who fell into a position where he was unable to receive God's Word directly, to restore the foundation of faith, he should have set forth certain conditional objects acceptable to God's will in place of the Word, with an absolute faith. This conditional object to be set forth in Adam's family in place of the Word was the offering.
Second, there must be a central figure to restore the foundation of faith before laying the foundation at all. The central figure to restore the foundation of faith in Adam's family was, of course, Adam himself. Therefore, it was natural for Adam to offer the sacrifices. His doing so acceptably or not could decide the success or failure of laying the foundation of faith.
The Biblical record shows that Adam could not offer the sacrifices, but, instead, Cain and Abel did this. What must have been the reason? According to the principle of creation, man was originally created to deal with only one master. Therefore, God cannot work His providence in the principle of creation with any being that is in the position to deal with two masters. If God should accept Adam and his offering, Satan would also try to deal with them on the basis of his having a blood relationship with Adam. In that case, Adam would be placed in the non-principled position to have to deal with two masters, God and Satan. God, not being able to work such a non-principled providence, had to conduct the providence of dividing Adam, the origin of the two characters of good and evil, into two beings; namely, the being representing good character and the being representing evil character. For this purpose, God gave Adam two sons, respectively representing good and evil. He had each offer sacrifices by setting them in the respective positions to deal either with God or Satan; that is, He put them in the position in the principle of creation of dealing with one master.
Then who, between Cain and Abel, the sons of the same father, is supposed to stand in the position to deal with God as the representation of good, and who is to stand in the position to deal with Satan as the representation of evil? Both Cain and Abel were the fruit of Eve's fall. Consequently, this question was to be decided according to the course of the fall of Eve, who was the origin of the fall.
Eve's fall consisted of two kinds of illicit love affairs. The first one was the spiritual fall through love with the archangel. The second was the physical fall through love with Adam. Both are, of course, the same in that they are fallen actions. However, when we want to decide which is more aligned with the Principle and more forgivable, we must say that the second act is more so than the first. This is because the second act of the fall was that in which Eve had intercourse with Adam, who was going to be her spouse in the Principle, out of her desire to go back to God's side after realizing the illicit nature of the relationship with the archangel (cf. Part I, Ch. 2, Sec. II, 2--77). The first act of the fall was that in which she had the relationship with the archangel, who was not her spouse in the Principle, out of the excessive desire to enjoy what it was not yet time for her to enjoy; that is, to become like God, with her eyes opened (Gen. 3:5).
Cain and Abel were the fruits of Eve's illicit love. Therefore, God had to discriminate conditionally between the two types of illicit acts of love committed centering on Eve, and had to set up Cain and Abel in the respective positions representing different situations. That is to say, Cain, being the fruit of the first love, was placed in the position to deal with Satan, as the representation of evil, symbolizing the first fallen act of love with the archangel. Abel, being the fruit of the second love, was placed in the position to deal with God, as the representation of good, symbolizing the second fallen act of love with Adam. [More]

| | | | History of the Assemblies of God | The General Council of the Assemblies of God (USA), one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the United States, was organized in 1914 by a broad coalition of ministers who desired to work together to fulfill common objectives, such as sending missionaries and providing fellowship and accountability. Formed in the midst of the emerging worldwide Pentecostal revival, the Assemblies of God quickly took root in other countries and formed indigenous national organizations. The Assemblies of God (USA) is a constituent member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship – one of the largest Pentecostal fellowships in the world.
Historical Roots
Throughout the latter half of the 19th century in the United States, Protestants from various backgrounds began to ask themselves why their churches did not seem to exhibit the same vibrant, faith-filled life as those in the New Testament. Many of these believers joined evangelical or Holiness churches, engaged in ardent prayer and personal sacrifice, and earnestly sought God. It was in this context that people began experiencing biblical spiritual gifts.
Pentecostals pioneers were hungry for authentic Christianity, and they looked to previous spiritual outpourings, such as the First Great Awakening (1730s-40s) and Second Great Awakening (1800s-30s), for inspiration and instruction. They identified themselves in the tradition of reformers and revivalists such as Martin Luther, John Wesley, and Dwight L. Moody.
The Pentecostal Revival
One of the focal points of the emerging Pentecostal movement was known as the Azusa Street revival (1906-09). It was an unlikely location for an event that would change the face of Christianity. In the summer of 1906, revival erupted in the newly-formed congregation meeting at the small, run-down Apostolic Faith Mission at 312 Azusa Street in Los Angeles, California. Critics attacked the congregation because its mild-mannered African-American Holiness preacher, William J. Seymour, preached racial reconciliation and the restoration of biblical spiritual gifts. The revival soon became a local sensation, then attracted thousands of curiosity seekers and pilgrims from around the world.
Seymour had been a student of Charles Parham, who provided the doctrinal framework for the young Pentecostal movement. Parham’s identification in scripture of speaking in tongues as the “Bible evidence” (later called the “initial evidence”) of Spirit baptism became a defining mark of the emerging Pentecostal movement. After students at his Bethel Bible School in Topeka, Kansas, began speaking in tongues at a prayer meeting on January 1, 1901, Parham, through his Apostolic Faith Movement, had some success in promoting the restoration of the gift of tongues. While the Apostolic Faith Movement was largely confined to the south central United States, the revival at Azusa Street catapulted Pentecostalism before a worldwide audience.
Formation of the Assemblies of God
As the revival rapidly spread, many Pentecostals recognized the need for greater organization and accountability. The founding fathers and mothers of the Assemblies of God met in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 2-12, 1914 to promote unity and doctrinal stability, establish legal standing, coordinate the mission enterprise, and establish a ministerial training school. These founders constituted the first General Council and elected two officers: Eudorus N. Bell as chairman (title later changed to general superintendent) and J. Roswell Flower as secretary, as well as the first executive presbytery.
Hot Springs, Arkansas
The approximately 300 delegates to the first General Council represented a variety of independent churches and networks of churches, including the “Association of Christian Assemblies” in Indiana and the “Church of God in Christ and in Unity with the Apostolic Faith Movement” from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas.
Almost immediately, leaders were faced with a doctrinal dispute – whether to abandon traditional Trinitarian theology in favor of a modal monarchian view of the godhead (also called the “New Issue” or Oneness theology). In 1916 the General Council approved a Statement of Fundamental Truths, which affirmed Trinitarian orthodoxy.
From the beginning, evangelism and missions have been central to the identity of the Assemblies of God and have resulted in a continuing growth at home and abroad. In 2007, the Assemblies of God claimed a constituency in the United States of 2,836,174 adherents; 12,311 churches; and 33,622 ministers. The General Council supported 2,691 foreign missionaries and associates working with the broader World Assemblies of God Fellowship, whose adherents numbered more than 57 million.
The aggressive missions programs of the church are designed to establish self-supporting and self-propagating national church bodies in every country. Ministers and leaders are trained in [More]

| | | | The Enoch Code | Foundation of Faith | The Enoch Code November 30, 2014 by Philip Jenkins 5 Comments This is puzzling. On multiple occasions, I have written about the ancient text known as 1 Enoch, which the early church regarded as almost canonical. From the early Middle Ages, though, the book was mostly lost to the West, and was only rediscovered in the eighteenth century in Ethiopian translations. Although this lengthy book deals with many subjects, one long section (chapters 72-87) is an astronomical and calendrical treatise, concerning the stars. Now here’s the problem. In 1616, Sir Walter Raleigh (he of discovering tobacco fame) wrote his History of the World. This includes a scholarly and seemingly specific Enoch reference: But of these prophecies of Enoch, Saint Jude testifieth; and some part of his books (which contained the course of the stars, their names and motions) were afterward found in Arabia Felix, in the Dominion of the Queene of Saba (saith Origen) of which Tertullian affirmeth that he had seen and read some whole pages. Raleigh Raleigh knows of a book attributed to Enoch, which includes astronomical material, and that fits 1 Enoch perfectly. Raleigh bases this comment on Origen, specifically his Homilies on Numbers. All of which is well and good, and he is accurately summarizing the Origen passage – except for the note about the Arabian discovery. Nor is that cited in Tertullian, who regarded Enoch highly as a prophet, and wrote a good deal about him. It is perfectly plausible that part of the astronomical section might have been discovered in antiquity, in Arabia or elsewhere, and that this was noted in some patristic (Byzantine?) source that Raleigh had read somewhere along the way. In this text, though, he was going on memory, because he was in prison at the time of writing, without full access to his normal library. So what was Raleigh thinking of? I have never seen a convincing answer to this question. Could he really have been using a source otherwise unknown to scholarship? What is doubly interesting here is that we know that different portions of what became 1 Enoch originally circulated independently, and the Astronomical Book was a free standing text. Several copies of it were found at Qumran. Raleigh’s note suggests the finding of a truly ancient version of the material, before it had been combined with the other portions. But what on earth is the source? Am I missing something obvious? Any thoughts? [More] | | |
| | | | Already Friends of God | The Behemoth | Foundation of Faith | In some Christian circles, it is often said that everyone should have a personal relationship with Jesus, and that everyone should ask Jesus into his heart. These phrases assume rich truths: That Jesus Christ is the ultimate source of meaning, hope, and love. That a fruitful life finds him at its center. That this center is not merely a matter of priority, but that it is a relationship, and a very personal one at that.
On the other hand, the way this is said often puts a kink into that relationship. It assumes that unless one does something—usually praying a certain prayer, said in a certain way—one does not have a personal relationship with Jesus. Also lurking in the background is a Jesus who passively waits for us to pray before becoming our friend.
This approach encourages transactional faith. If we do X, God will do Y. And a great deal depends on us. That’s a lot of pressure: to start this personal relationship with the right prayer and keep it going with the right spiritual life.
To be fair, people who extol a personal relationship with Jesus don‘t necessarily take the language to its logical conclusion. Still, the fact that it so easily lures us into transactional faith may be the reason the New Testament never urges us to “have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ” or tells us to invite Jesus into our hearts. Instead of exhorting us to have a personal relationship with Jesus by saying a certain prayer, the Bible says something much better: You are already a friend of God—enjoy it.
A strong current of the New Testament moves in this direction. God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them (2 Cor. 5:19). In Adam, all have died; in Christ all are alive (Rom. 5:17). We see it especially in Paul’s letter to the Colossians:
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (1:19–20)
In short, because of what Christ has done in his life, death, and resurrection, we are in a relationship with him already:
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. (2:9–10)
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight. . . . (1:21–22)
Note the strong language. We are reconciled with God. We have peace with God. We have union with God. We have been brought into the presence of God. It doesn't get any more personal than that.
And it's apparently a done deal. Paul acknowledges that at one point we were enemies of God, but apparently no longer. We are now reconciled. Not just us, but everything and everyone: God reconciled “to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven.”
Language like this—even when it’s biblical—makes us nervous, because we see universalism crouching at the door. Universalism is the teaching that everyone will eventually be saved. As much as many might want this to be true, it is never taught in the Bible. Jesus and Paul and John, among others, all assume that some people will reject God into eternity, as befuddling as such rejection might be.
Yet, how does this idea—that not everyone will be saved—fit with the idea that all have been reconciled to God? Are we reconciled or not?
The short answer is: Yes! From God's side, yes! “God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them,” Paul says. No ifs, ands, or buts.
But then he goes on: “Be reconciled to God.” In other words, we are called not to create this reality but simply live into it. As Paul puts it in Colossians:
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (2:6–7)
When we repent and believe in the gospel, we are not making something happen; we are not creating a new reality. We are simply changing the way we think about reality—that’s repentance. And we are deciding to accept reality—that's faith. We trust that we live in a universe ruled by a gracious God who has created a bond of love between us and him.
That faith—that acceptance of reality the way it really is, that we are forgiven and friends of God—produces in us some extraordinary reactions. One is repentance: The fact of God’s forgiveness of us despite the gravity of our sin—well, that makes us even more regretful of sin and more committed to living according to God’s wishes. Another is gratefulness: We now live not out of a sense of mere duty, let alone in fear of retribution. Another still is what might be called ev [More]

Eventually, however, they came to see the utility of some gathering place, and they erected severely plain-style meetinghouses like the Quakers. [More]

February 11, 1731][Note 1][Note 2] – December 14, 1799) was the first President of the United States (1789–1797), the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.[3] He presided over the convention that drafted the United States Constitution, which replaced the Articles of Confederation and remains the supreme law of the land.
Washington was elected president as the unanimous choice of the electors in the elections of both 1788–1789 and 1792.[4] He oversaw the creation of a strong, well-financed national government that maintained neutrality in the wars raging in Europe, suppressed rebellion, and won acceptance among Americans of all types.[5] Washington established many forms in government still used today, such as the cabinet system and inaugural address.[6][7] His retirement after two terms and the peaceful transition from his presidency to that of John Adams established a tradition that continued up until Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to a third term.[8] Washington has been widely hailed as "father of his country" even during his lifetime.[3][9] [More]
