| | | | Layman's Prayer Revival | CBN.com | 1857, the leadership of the Fulton Street Church in New York City saw a sharp decline in church attendance. They tapped Jeremiah Lanpher to lead the effort to reach the unchurched of the city. Lanpher was a former merchant with no formal theological training. He wasn't sure how to proceed, so he organized a noonday prayer meeting. He printed up notices and handed them to anyone who would take one. On the day of the meeting, Lanpher waited.r> Jeremiah Lanpher announced he was a city missionary and there was going to be a prayer meeting. No one showed up and he began praying. Twenty minutes later he heard someone coming up the stairs and that first time maybe two or three joined him. The next time someone joined him and then the room was filled. And so he went from one room to two rooms to three rooms and he went to the church sanctuary.
In the following months, noonday prayer meetings sprung up all across the city. In fact, many factories blew the lunch whistle at 11:55 a.m., giving workers the chance to rush to the nearest church to pray for an hour. Churches of all denominations were filled with people praying on their lunch break. This caught the attention of the media.
The Layman's Prayer Revival had the motivation that we must pray one hour. Jesus said, 'Could you not tarry with me one hour?' And they wanted to go pray during their lunch hour so there was fasting and great prayer. The editor of the Herald Tribune was looking out of his window at a few minutes before twelve and he was shocked to see men running from their places of business, bumping into one another and within a minute they all disappeared into churches. And he said what's going on? So he sent a reporter down to see what it was and he said, 'they are all praying.'
The next day he got all of his reporters together, put them on horses to cover the whole city. They came and said there must be fifteen thousand people. So he began to write stories, and then before you know it, there were twenty-five thousand. The more stories he wrote the bigger the meeting got. And he put them on horse to cover the whole city and they came back and they said there must be about forty thousand men praying through the lunch hour. What's happening here? Because New York was center of the world at that time, all over America, in Cleveland, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, people would read the New York papers and then revival began to break out.
Prayer meetings organized by lay leadership spread like wildfire across the United States. By 1859, more than one million unchurched Americans were won to Christ. God was pouring out His spirit, preparing America for one of its darkest chapters in history.
The layman's prayer revival took place two years before the Civil War. And think of all of the thousands men who were slain and cut down in battle. The only positive thing we can say is that many of them knew the Savior before they went into that battle.
Imagine if we all took an hour out of our busy lives to pray -- what could happen? [More]

| | | | God Needs Stretcher-Bearers - Veterans to Christ | Veterans to Christ | And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” – Mark 2:3-5
How much are we willing to do to save our friends? What do we let get in the way of saving the lost? We are commanded to make disciples, but how many of us make it our life rather than something to do only when it is convenient or when someone falls into our lap? If we are being honest with ourselves, most of us keep Jesus and the gospel to ourselves not because we aren’t appreciative but because it is difficult to witness. We love God and everything He has done for us, but we do so in private. It is an amazing thing to have a personal relationship with the creator of the universe, but many of us choose to keep it personal and refuse to be used by God in order to share the Good News to a lost and perishing world. The story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man reflects what every one of us should be doing. It is a story that reflects the boldness and perseverance of men who are willing to do anything for a fellow image bearer of God.
Most people who read the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man focus on the man and they focus on Jesus. They see a man who was not only healed of being paralyzed, but of Jesus, in front of everyone, claiming to have the power to forgive a man of his sins. In that instant, Jesus claimed a right only given to God himself. It is an amazing example of Jesus healing a man inside and out. What many of us often forget to think about are the friends of the man who went above and beyond in an effort to help. These stretcher-bearers brought a man to Jesus when that man couldn’t walk himself.
I think it might be difficult for us to imagine the love these men had for their friend. In a day when we cast off friends for simple slights, the idea that men would go to such lengths to help their friend might seem foreign to us. I like to imagine what that exchange looked like. One of them coming to the rest and saying something in the order of, “Jesus is here! I’ve heard that he is healing the sick and making the blind see! Let’s go get Bill (His name might have been Bill!) and see if this Jesus can heal him!” They not only thought of their friend rather than themselves, but they loved him so much as to carry him on a stretcher all the way to see Jesus on the chance that their friend would be healed. Even more amazing is that when they saw that the house where Jesus was teaching was full, these guys carried their friend onto the roof, broke a hole in the roof and had the gall to lower their friend into the house while Jesus was giving a sermon.
introduce-others-to-christ-465x280How convicting should that be for all of us? Unbelieving friends who are perishing surround us and we stand by and do nothing. Notice that I said we and not you for I am as bad about this as practically anyone. The men who carried the paralyzed man went out of their way to try to heal their friend while we can’t even be bothered to have an uncomfortable conversation with a friend. I want you to consider the fact that we are watching our friends walk blindly into an eternity in hell. Why? Are we too busy? Is it too inconvenient? Would you do nothing if you saw an infant on a highway with cars passing by or would you stop and save the child? That is literally what we are doing! We know that our non-believing friends are in serious danger, but we can’t be bothered to help.
I know that most will not be receptive to the gospel, but I also know that I heard the gospel over and over again for almost 7 years before the Spirit worked in my heart enough to receive salvation. Just like the paralyzed man, I have my own list of stretcher-bearers that did not give up on me. I thank God for the men and women in my life who were willing to carry me to meet Jesus. These people decided to forego the easy thing and do what it took to save me from an eternity separated from God. The dead cannot save themselves and only God can raise people from the dead, but God needs stretcher-bearers. Jesus needs faithful men and women who are willing to bring the dead to Him to be healed. Are you willing?

| | | | Judas the Galilean: The Flesh and Blood Jesus - Daniel Unterbrink - Google Books | In his history of the Jewish nation, Josephus wrote only of the death of Jesus, not mentioning one detail of his life. In contrast, the life of Judas the Galilean was chronicled from his temple cleansing to his grandson's suicide at Masada. Yet, Josephus did not tell us how Judas died. Is it possible that Judas and Jesus are the same person? Just a few of the similarities are listed below. Both Judas and Jesus cleansed the Temple in Jerusalem. Like Jesus, Judas was anointed King or Messiah by his followers in Galilee. The organizations of the teachers were identical. The second-in-command to Jesus was nicknamed Cephas. Josephus called Judas' second, Sadduc. Barabbas was released in the trial of Jesus during the reign of Pilate. Judas was arrested by Herod the Great and later released to the Jewish crowd. Jesus was interrogated by Annas and later crucified because of his stand against Roman taxation. Judas led the tax revolt against Roman taxation in 6 AD. Annas became High Priest in 7 AD. I was born without arms or legs and given no medical reason for this condition. Faced with countless challenges and obstacles, God has given me the strength to surmount what others might call impossible.
Life Without Limbs is all about sharing this same hope and genuine love that I have personally experienced with people all over the globe. It’s been said that doors open to a man without arms and legs much more easily than to anyone else, we thank God for providing that privilege. I’ve been invited into very unexpected places to share about my faith in Jesus Christ and literally millions have responded.
Traveling extensively to over 54 countries and still counting, I have been extremely humbled by the continuous opportunities that the Lord has given me to share my testimony. My greatest joy in this life is to introduce Jesus to those I meet and tell them of His great desire to get to know them personally by allowing Him to become their Lord and Savior. That’s what Life Without Limbs is all about. [More]
